CWA Launches Expanded Public Awareness Program
BOULDER, CO (October 3, 2013) - The Climbing Wall Association (CWA), the voice of the climbing wall industry, has announced the release of its expanded ClimbSmart!® public awareness campaign. Industry growth, new technology, and different types of climbing offered
in modern facilities have led to the need for updated risk management resources.
After several months of development, the program has been expanded from a single resource to include four posters and an introductory climber awareness video. The four new posters address auto belay awareness, bouldering safety, belay technique, and a general warning. These new, targeted resources will provide coverage throughout climbing facilities. The video includes professional climbers Chris Sharma, Sasha DiGiulian, Paul Robinson, and Jason Kehl speaking about climber responsibility and the benefits of rock climbing.
"Given the industry's recent growth and technological advances, we felt that it was necessary to provide updated resources that meet the changing needs of climbing facilities", states Bill Zimmermann, CWA's CEO. "After extensive conversation with our Board of Directors and
other industry experts, we are proud to present these resources the entire industry."
The ClimbSmart!® program is a national public awareness campaign addressing the elements of risk in climbing sports, climber education, proper equipment use, and personal responsibility. ClimbSmart! is now maintained by the CWA. The new ClimbSmart!® resources are available at the Climbing Wall Association's website and are free to current CWA members.
