Dave Sharratt
Name:David Sharratt
DOB: 3/15/78
How did you get started climbing? Some high school buddies took me out. There were 4 of us, one harness, one rope and one pair of shoes. We made due and I was immediately hooked. I didn't want to wash my hands afterwards because I loved the smell of chalk and lichen.
How old were you when you started? 16
Who or what inspired you to start climbing? The idea of it had been really intriguing for a few years before I had the opportunity to try it.
Who served as your inspiration in life? Friends, books, adventure, the invigorating spirit of the wilderness.
What was your first outdoor climb? A 5.8 sport route at Rumney
What do you do when you're not climbing? Finish building my house, woodworking, spend time with my wife, eat good food.
Any training advice or suggestions? Get inspired. Push yourself really hard and also know when to rest. Mix it up. Hangboards and power-endurance circuits have helped me.
What do you feel is your best accomplishment, outside of climbing? Being happy.
What do you feel is your best accomplishment within climbing? Hard to say. My strongest memories are from hard (for me) traditional rock routes that I have opened and adventures in the mountains. Also not giving up on some hard (for me) sport climbs and sending with bloody tips at the end of the day.,
If you could have 1 superpower what would it be? Maybe I would have an extra few set of arms like a Hindu god, or Jesus's ability to heal, or how about be able to fly through the Himalaya like a Bodhisattva and bring joy to people.
If you could have 3 wishes, what would they be? (no wishing for more wishes)
Climb more, stay healthy, find a new big overhanging crag withing 15minuites of my house.
What was your favorite childhood cartoon? Roadrunner
