Name: Olivia Hsu
DOB: November 21
How did you get started climbing? I started late in life. I got into climbing when I was at University in Brisbane, Australia. There was a climbing club and I thought that I could meet cool people so I went, and of course because climbers are cool people I kept going!
How old were you when you started? I think I was 20
Who or what inspired you to start climbing? I think what inspired me to climb was the challenges that it presents but I love the friendship I have made through climbing and places that it can take you.
What was your first outdoor climb? The first time I ever climbed it was outdoors. I didn’t step foot in a gym until years later. I started climbing barefoot for the first 6 months or until I could climb 5.12 then I thought it was time to get shoes!
What do you do when you’re not climbing?
I’m the General Manager of a solar equipment company called Lumos Solar and I also teach yoga on top of that.
Aside from dedicating my time to climbing I have equally done so for yoga, I practicing 2-3 hours 5-6 times a week.
Any training advice or suggestions?
REST! Listen to your body…
What do you feel is your best accomplishment, outside of climbing?
I teach yoga. So my best accomplishment is when a student of mine can leave my class feeling better then when they stepped foot through the door. Yoga is my Dharma.
What do you feel is your best accomplishment within climbing?
I feel like my best accomplishments are when I can persevere through difficulties such as red pointing working out hard moves and harness that into something positive. Not giving up until I succeed!
